Technically, there is no difference.
It's just a matter of supporting eastern languages correctly.

Technically, there is no difference.

That's right.
Thing is, that thre is only one form for singular and one for plural in western languages.
Always in nominativ (e.g. 1 image / 2, 3, 4, 5, ... images).
In eastern languages (almost generally) / the singular is always in nominativ (1 image -> 1 obraz, 1 year -> 1 rok).
But 2, 3, 4 images, years are used in plural nominativ (2, 3, 4 obrazy, roky) and 5, 6, ... images are used in plural genitiv (5, 6, ... obrazov, rokov). Sometime even the plural expression are used entirely new words.
That's why the code posted above needed adjustment and the language files rewritten/new strings.
