CMSimple LE - any informations?
Re: CMSimple LE - any informations?
Hallo Dirk,
Christoph

Hi Björn,
1. you have not contacted me, before you have started your project, and I don't believe, that you have asked Peter last year.
2. You have not answered my e-mail
3. Now you expect, that I make the first step?
Good luck with your project - Gert

Hallo Gert,

Re: CMSimple LE - any informations?
Hi Gert,
Christoph
Why should he? CMSimple is distributed under GPLv3. So everybody has the rights, that are granted to him by this license. Nobody has to ask, when he want to redistribute an unmodified version (BTW: should he change the name in this case?). And nobody has to ask for permission to develop and distribute a modified version, if he sticks with the rules set forth by the GPL, and doesn't violate any other rights.Gert wrote:Hi Björn,

Re: CMSimple LE - any informations?

I know, nobody have to do so, but it would be a kind of courtesy, if I intend to use the name of the project, cmb wrote:Why should he?

Hi Svastisvasti wrote:Hi Björn,
Personally I believe, your project would benefit, if you name it:
CMSimpleClassic
and if you call the downloads
cmsimpleclassic_3-5.zip etc.

My project is already named CMSimple Classic.
The only reason I don't change the few place where I only write CMSimple is, that I want to teach Gert some good manners, so he stop bullying people.
You are right that GPL is mainly about the code. But GPLv3 makes oportunities for making terms about naming the projects etc.
See in section 7 :
But so far nobody has made such terms, neither Peter Harteg nor Gert. And so far CMSimple is also not a trademark. Therefore nobody has the exclusive right to use the name CMSimple. It doesn't matter what Gert thinks he bougth and what he paid.Notwithstanding any other provision of this License, for material you add to a covered work, you may (if authorized by the copyright holders of that material) supplement the terms of this License with terms:
(...)
c) Prohibiting misrepresentation of the origin of that material, or requiring that modified versions of such material be marked in reasonable ways as different from the original version; or
d) Limiting the use for publicity purposes of names of licensors or authors of the material; or
e) Declining to grant rights under trademark law for use of some trade names, trademarks, or service marks; or

Good manners would be to answer e-mails, to avoid such public discussions, bjorn wrote:The only reason I don't change the few place where I only write CMSimple is, that I want to teach Gert some good manners, so he stop bullying people.

Re: CMSimple LE - any informations?
Just so everybody knows
I contacted Peter Harteg back in april/may 2011. Asked if he had any plans for the futere of CMSimpe or if it would be OK with him if I started a CMSimple project.
He suggested (remark - he did not demand) that I called the project something a little different. I called it CMSimple LE and started with version 3.4. Peter Harteg even linked to my project from his site. I stopped the project when Peter Harteg suddenly published CMSimple version 3.4 and I at the same time was seriously ill.
Now when Peter Harteg have stopped again I have restarted my project to keep the original "simple - small - smart" version alive. I have renamed my project to CMSimple Classic which is clearly differnt from all other names.
I did not see any reason to contact Gert, because my project is completely based on Peter Hartegs GPL version.
Lastly I would like to add: I did not want a fight or a war with anybody. On the contrary I want to cooperate with as many as posible.
