ok, most likely been asked and answered before, plugin
can i make a mobile template that will be auto used when a mobile user visits
some kind a script that will detect a mobile user, then serve it up for them

You may find dozens of another scripts, jquerry etc. Or you may use http://www.tabletodivconverter.com/ for your table based templates. But much easier is to build a responsive template with mediaqueries part in the stylesheet, so you need only one template that would behave differently depending on width/height of respective device viewport. This, however, is not as easy with table based templates (I doubt if it is possible at all) because the responsive templates mostly use floating of "boxed" content.
