Don't even know what I have installed

Post by Cloud Walker » Sat Feb 26, 2011 3:19 pm

Hello,

At this point I don't even know what I have installed, or how to make it (whatever I installed) function.

I found a free baby website template, downloaded it, extracted it, found "template.htm", double clicked it and got page without images.
I checked images folder and it appeared all needed images were present.
I looked at "template.htm" for img src and saw that the paths were not correct,
<img name="template_r1_c1" src="<?=$pth['folder']['templateimages']?>template_r1_c1.jpg" width="528" height="109" border="0" alt="">
reset paths to <img name="template_r1_c1" src="images/template_r1_c1.jpg" width="528" height="109" border="0" alt="">.
I refreshed "template.htm", all images EXCEPT those in the menu folder appeared in their normal position on the "template",
however there were no words (or content) at all.

Went back to source of free baby website template,
read instructions and realized I needed to use CMSimple to "see" the page as intended.
Continued reading and downloaded CMSimple3_3 (AGPL), extracted it,
ftped up to http://www.asanctuary.net/thenewlongfamily.com/cgi-bin (as instructed in installation instructions),
created babypage folder,
ftped all the files, and I still had the same.
Registered here, looked through the topics on this board,
found Problems with installation which is here.
I reset all folders in http://www.asanctuary.net/thenewlongfamily.com/babypage to 777 then went through the folders and reset all index.*** to 444.

I don't know what to do at this point.

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,
Cloud

hi cloud

i see with your installations, that the downloaded templates, must be added in this folder

http://www.asanctuary.net/thenewlongfam ... templates/

at the moment, there is only the default template in there

if you add the baby template there as well, you will then be able to choose it in the administration section

cheers

Thank you for you help mikey,

Okay, so I added images, menu, stylesheet.css, and template.htm =
http://www.asanctuary.net/thenewlongfam ... mplate.htm

template.htm didn't load the page when selected.

So then, I added the folder simplerbaby, which contained images, menu, stylesheet.css, and template.htm =
http://www.asanctuary.net/thenewlongfam ... mplate.htm

again, template.htm didn't load the page when selected

Wait a minute, you said
"if you add the baby template (simplerbaby in this case) there as well, you will then be able to choose it in the administration section"
administration section? where is that or how do I get to it?

Thank you again.

Be Well,
Cloud

Well uploaded the images and menu folder and stylesheet.css and template.htm to thenewlongfamily.com/cgi-bin/cmsimple folder.
then went to thenewlongfamily.com/cgi-bin/cmsimple/login.php
and got this
Forbidden
You don't have permission to access /thenewlongfamily.com/cgi-bin/cmsimple/login.php on this server.
Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

My daughter, thankfully, did not choose this template for my grand-daughters site, so there is not point in continuing.

Thank you for you assistance.

Be Well,
Cloud
PS I don't think all this should be necessary to use a template. Nor do I believe it is simple.

Hallo Cloud Walker,

I fear you did not understand how a Content Management System is working.

Do your changes by calling the site and use the login link. You can't call single files (like login.php) of the CMS by your browser.

If you can't find a login link, call the site by adding "&login" to the adress line of your browser:

Code: Select all

http://www.your_site.com/?&login - or - http://www.your_site.com/?the_page&login
[/size]

Hm, I can't find a working installation of CMSimple under your domain, playing around with your links ...

A CMSimple-template is usable only with a working installation of CMSimple or CMSimple_XH.
