CMSimple and CMSimple_XH

Post by ScottyNL » Tue Jan 18, 2011 11:42 am

Hello all,

Yesterday i started with CMSimple.
After a few hours, i have got the base for my site working.

When i Googled for CMSimple today, i came across CMSimple_XH.
As far as i could see, CMSimple_XH is an improved version of the normal CMSimple.

I guess it would be better to use XH instead of the normal version?
Problem is, what to do with my already build CMSimple site + template, is there a way to upgrade my existing install to XH?

I am rather new in CMSimple, so sorry if this is a n00bie question. ;)
I hope someone can help me out with this.

Tnx in advance.

Grtz,

ScottyNL

PS: sorry for the bad English, it is not my native language.

Hi Scotty,

welcome at the board!

You're right. CMSimple 3.3 is the last version of the classic CMSimple.

The further development is done by the community under the GPL, so no back-link is required - even if we like to see one ;) .

You can use your content and template with CMSimple_XH too.
But take care: from CMSimple_XH 1.2 the content is UTF-8 encodet. So you should maybe convert some wired characters in the content.

You'll find some more informations at the CMSimple_XH Website: http://www.cmsimple-xh.com/?Information:Compatibility

Have fun!

Thank you Holger for the fast reply.

Next question is, how can i "upgrade" my old CMSimple to CMSimple_XH?

EDIT: Problem solved.
1. Made a backup of my old CMSimple installation.
2. Fresh install CMSimple_XH
3. Added old template + plugins to new CMSimple_XH install
4. Chmod template + plugins

It works. :)

One more hint:
Check if any of installed plugins are also not available in XH versions. Look at http://www.cmsimple-xh.de or at http://www.cmsimplewiki.com.
Also use the (X)html and css links in footer in any of distributed default templates. Especially in case that you use some old plugins. These do not necessarilly produce a valid code. Some of them even may not work properly.

It's no shame to ask for an answer if all efforts failed.
But it's awful to ask without any effort to find the answer yourself.
