But I'll not rely on it with plugins.
That's ok, for your plugin ;)

Here we want to find out, if we should increase the System Requirements to php5 NOW or sometimes later.

If the majority wants it, we can archivate CMSimple_XH 1.x.x (keep downloadable latest version), and develop CMSimple_XH 2.0 for php5. Is php5 a reason for 2.0 :?:

Hello Holger,

Joomla 1.6: PHP 5.2+

That was my point, when I've written

AFAIK there only few CMSs out there, that doesn't need PHP5+. And IMHO for a simple System there's not too much need for OO, overloading, exceptions, reflection, xml and dom. And there's no need for SQLite, if you have regexps ;)

AFAIK the Zend Engine's better performance will be used if CMSimple is running under PHP5.

+ 1

Currently I try to avoid features of PHP > 4.3. But I don't know about the future.

What I mean is:

We could make a final CMSimple_XH 1.5 with FCKeditor, jQuery4CMSimple and some minor fixes and keep it downloadable as the latest version for php4. Like we have CMSimple_XH 1.1.3 as the latest ANSI encoded version.

Status: Bugfixes only.

And then we can develop CMSimple_XH 2.0 for php5, with a modern Editor and Holgers Filemanager as a standard delivered plugin.

Hello Gert,
Gert wrote: At the moment I would be afraid to support CMSimple 3.3 or LE with such a step.
IMO that's not only the point. If a user wants to update to a newer version requiring PHP5 and fails, he might switch back to CMSimple_XH 1.4.1. So there might be requests to support 1.4.1 with newer version. And perhaps a new fork will be born :(

IMHO only, if PHP5's features would be used by many parts of the core package (and if they were used not only to use them, but for an even better CMSimple_XH).

PS: sorry crossposting again; anyway ;)

Hello developers,

did anybody had a look at http://tetlaw.id.au/view/blog/fckeditor ... ce-editor/. It's old code (2006), but perhaps it's usable. Just an idea.

Sorry, forgot about the topic in the heat of the discussion  .

For now you should stay with 4.3. The core needs no PHP5.
Again sorry for confusion,

Holger

But first make a port to CK. It's already done and somewhere available on the net.
But I can't find it at the moment...

Hello Holger,

thanks for the information. Just took a glimpse at the tutorial, but it seems okay. Wouldn't that be a simple solution for CMSimple? No pun intended ;) AFAIK this wouldn't help with ckEditor, but anyway.

Sorry again, but the most posters here are Germans ;)
