Providers: your good and bad experiences?

Post by svasti » Fri Aug 07, 2015 4:26 pm

Hi all, if you are looking for a provides, aka web-hotel, what are you doing? Where are you looking for help+information?

I thought it would be helpful, if we could exchange some experiences here.
Every provider should get its own topic, so that casn have an overview at a glance.

What do you think?

http://www.fritsch-hosting.de

This is a very small provider lokated in Berlin, who offers an extremely cheap and very reliable tarif:
0.69€ per month = 8,28 € per year, with 150MB webspace, 1 free .de-domain, + 1 usable e-mail account.

Friends of mine are using it since many years without problems.
However if you need more space, it's getting much more expensive: 1,3GB for 36,- €

http://webhoster.de/ = http://webhoster.ag/

I used to have a number of account at concept69.de. The owner sold everything to webhoster.de, which is unfortunately much more expensive. However the old contracts should be still valid, or? During the takeover I noticed that in one of my accounts the inclusive domain was listed as exclusive domain (requiring additinonal payment) and I asked webhoster.de to correct that.

Now, to my big surprise they refused to do so! They told me, I must take one of their expensive standard tariffs or they will terminate my account. I was and still am quite shocked, they are extremely unhelpful. So my warning, never to do business with this firm.

Since I have begun with webpages many years ago (at least 15), I used only one provider. Visit his page using one of banners on my website http://cmsimple.sk
[ external image ] or [ external image ].
The prices are acceptable and you may specify exactly what you need.
You also may profit on "resellers" program (as I do). Simply register on https://resellersk.dnsserver.eu/ (sorry it's only in Slovak). But basically it is that you drop link to your template (e.g.: http://www.exohosting.sk/?resid=<your_user)name>) and you get some credits for each servis ordered via this link. It works very nice.
The services are IMO absolutely reliable, the staff is very helpful and flexible. I pay nothing except for my dmain long time already. Everything is paid from my credits.

It's no shame to ask for an answer if all efforts failed.
But it's awful to ask without any effort to find the answer yourself.

There are hundreds of hosting options out there. You need to do your research and see what is best for your particular site. The needs of one site (say a blog) will be different as the needs of another (ecommerce site). Asking for advice on a host really all depends on what kind of site you are designing and what the needs will be (disk space, scaling ability, etc.) vs. the sites of the people you are asking for advice and what their needs were.
