Search Engine issue with member pages

Post by empee » Wed Oct 15, 2008 6:57 pm

Dear CMsimple friends,

Can you please help me with the following:
I have created a web site with CMsimpe, using the plugin Member pages.
All works well, but I discovered that the download-able documents (in pdf) that only can
be assessed through this member page section, pops up in  #$$45#^%#Google.
Is there a way that Google doesn't find it , nor scans the pdfs?

Thanks in Advance,

MP Welters

Hmm, where and how do you store your PDFs? In the usual Download directory? This cannot be protected by memberpages. To my knowledge, memberpages etc. protect webpages but not directories. So, even if you have the download information on one of your protected pages, the directories are far open.

Mhmm, it might be more complicated: any crawler needs al link to follow in order to find a file. If Your protected PDFs are visible to a crawler this means that there must exist unprotected Links. Maybe the web server is also configured to permit directory listings of the download directory? In addition to optimize robots.txt would check this with tools like curl or wget and possibly fix in .htaccess)
