Mailform - the message could not be sent

Hello there,
I have just created a new site. When I want to send a message with mailform, I receive the error notice "the message could not be sent". I have tried toggling the Lf only button with no success. Running Cmsimple_XH 1.7.2 and php 5.5.38.
