legallink() and legal.txt

Post by cmb » Wed Jul 24, 2013 8:49 pm

Hello Community,

there have been some discussions about these issues in the past (see http://cmsimpleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=3310 and in the internal forum http://cmsimpleforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=32&t=1571).

cmsimple/legal.txt was changed for CMSimple_XH 1.4, but there's still the old legal.txt in CMSimple_XH 1.1.x. This should be changed as well (I assume Gert as the copyright holder is not against it).

And we may consider to deprecate legallink(). This shall show the webmaster/web designer (if he's in debug mode), that the "template tag" can be removed from the template (furthermore it will make it clear that the function should not be used in new templates). Alternatively/additionally we might return an empty string from this function as was already suggested by others.

I use almost on all my templates to the hoster (as mostly all webpages I have built are hosted mostly by the same hoster). I have found that this link rises the rank of websites pretty nice.
So maybe the function could be named about like "speciallink()" or "optionallink()".
In my case I add there always

Code: Select all

<a href="http://www.myhoster.sk/?resid=MyNick">Hosted by MyHoster</a>
This link may evtl. be used for copyright with/without any link.

It's no shame to ask for an answer if all efforts failed.
But it's awful to ask without any effort to find the answer yourself.

That would require a language string for the link text (same as with legallink()) plus a config option for the linked URL. And then the user would have to put the function call in the template. Isn't it simpler to put the complete link directly in the template?

That's it. The link would be given in template. Template author is to be put directlzy in template. But the "speciallink" could be given anyway. It should be shown only if defined in config/language string. Otherwise it would't be shown. This is more flexible IMHO. Definitely simpler than to edit a template.
