Roadmap: transition from idea to todo

Postby svasti » Tue Jun 19, 2012 10:07 pm

Hello developpers,

looking at the roadmap I see lots of ideas and no to do. My proposition: 2 votes for "now" and no opposition results in a to do. Of course it would be better to require a higher number of votes, but I'afraid than we won't get much to do

Hi Frank,

thanks for pushing the development of CMSimple_XH -- IMO something that's beneficial for the community. :)

But I'm somewhat concerned that 2 votes might be given quickly -- leaving others not much time to react. So perhaps we might establish the following procedure:

Any idea that's posted should specify the date. After some predefined interval (maybe a week, perhaps better a month) the vote closes, so that everyone has a chance to give their vote. After the vote was closed even a 1:0 or 0:1 is the decision (assuming no votes means abstension). A tie might result in moving the item to the next version, so it can be considered and voted again.

And well, I hope all of these decisions could made in unison after discussing them thoroughly.

Ok,

that's also fine. We have to state the closing time. Well, there is the field "date", this could be (mis-)used as date for closing time? Or we could have the closing time as part of the vote field, right under the votes.

Yes, why not? This field can have a meaning depent on the state: for "idea" it is the closing time, for "todo/in progress" it is the scheduled due date, for "done" it's the date, when the change was finally commited.

Which interval till the voting closes do you suggest?

18 days, than the proposal has grown up... 1 month I find a little long, 1 week a little short, anything in between seems fine. 10 days? 2 weeks?

Done! I've entered July, 8th as date when the voting ends for all existing ideas.

Hello Community,

I'm not sure if this solution actually works. See e.g. "Filebrowser: allow viewing/downloading of Files". I've put that on the roadmap on Dec, 28th, so the voting time ended on Jan, 15th. But only 1 vote was given. Maybe others just abstained from voting about this item, but I assume they simply forgot to vote.

Perhaps it's better to schedule the voting deadlines in (monthly?) chunks. When a new idea is put on the roadmap it could be scheduled for the last day of the month, but at least 18 days in the future. So the example above would have been scheduled for Jan, 31th. This way everybody could have a look at the items every 2nd half of each month, and won't miss any vote.

Sometimes it's just not clear what's the subject of the vote.
As example look at the textarea discussion: it starts with an idea and ends up with two options/proposals or even with an open question.
It would be a big help it the 1st post of the discussion always includes the actual issue we vote about.
